Akala Garrett, a high school senior at Albemarle High School (NC) and a University of Texas recruit, broke the North Carolina state record in the 300 meter hurdles at the North Carolina State Outdoor Championships, clocking a time of 40.42 seconds, passing former record-holder Anna Cockrell, an Olympian.
