Allison Dos Santos of Brazil gets the stunning upset over defending Olympic and World Champion champion Karsten Warholm of Norway. On the surface, it would appear Warholm was just outclassed. This is simply not the case. Both athletes ran superior times, but Dos Santos is just the more race-ready athlete at this point in time. This is apparently Warholm's fastest opening time ever, so we know he is in shape. Give him another 2-3 races, and he will be back up to world record form. This generation of current 400m hurdlers are just fantastic, with multiple athletes running sub 47 seconds on a consistent basis. The top 3 athletes in the world right now are Karsten Warholm of Norway, Alliaon Dos Santos of Brazil, and Raj Benjamin of the USA.
