At the Diamond League track and field athletics meeting in Oslo, Norwegian sprinter Karsten Warholm broke the men's 400m hurdles world record, which had stood for 29 years. Warholm set a new world record of 46.70 seconds.

Kevin Young's 29-year-old record was ultimately broken with an official time of 46.70s. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain, the American set a new world record of 46.78 seconds. It was the men's track record that had stood the longest.

Despite this success, Warholm, a two-time world champion, shows no signs of slowing down till Tokyo 2020.

"It might take another world record to win the Olympics," Sky Sports quoted Norwegian as a saying. "There are such a lot of great guys out there at the moment who will all be aiming to do it and win gold."

This new world record will set up an exciting match-up at the Monaco Diamond League meeting on July 9, when Warholm and American competitor Rai Benjamin will compete head-to-head.
