Kevin Young's world 400m hurdles record of 46.78 at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics stood for 29 years until Karsten Warholm beat it.

The American track legend now lives in Zurich, Switzerland, which is coincidentally the venue of this week's Warholm vs Duplantis 100m sprint showdown organised by Puma, Red Bull and Weltklasse Zurich.

Here he tells AW why he thinks the 100m clash is brilliant for the sport would have never happened in his day.

Kevin Young versus Sergey Bubka in a sprint race would have been an intriguing sight, for instance, although he would have preferred a showdown with his old friend and long jumper Mike Powell.

Young also talks about how Warholm, Rai Benjamin and Alison dos Santos run far more aggressively in the opening part of their race than he did in the 1980s and 1990s.

He also says he would have loved to have been a 110m hurdler but fell into 400m hurdles because it was an easier route into his college team.

Plus he talks about Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's amazing world record in Paris, the development of the women's event and why World Athletics shouldn't mess around with the long jump board and hurdles heights.
