The Men’s 800m event at the 46th Edition of the Prefontaine Classic got off at 13:03 (local time) on August 21, 2021, at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene, two weeks after the Tokyo Olympic Games. The temperature range that day in Eugene was between 13°C - 26°C (55°F - 78°F), the City of Eugene is located at an altitude of 131 meters (430 feet) above sea level.

The event featured a Star-Studded field of ten athletes including the Pace Maker (Erik Sowinski, USA), eight of them Tokyo Olympians: Oliver Dustin (Great Britain), four Olympic Semifinalists: USC Trojan Star Isaiah Jewett (USA) who was scheduled to start, but, did not take the Start Line; former University of Kansas Jayhawk Bryce Hoppel (USA), Elliot Giles (Great Britain), former Mississippi State Bulldog Marco Arop (Canada), the remaining three were Olympic Finalists: the former University of Akron Zip Clayton Murphy (USA), the Olympic Silver Medalist Ferguson Rotich (Kenya) and his compatriot the Olympic Champion Emmanuel Korir.

An in-form Marco Arop (Canada) got the best out of Kenyan Superstars Korir and Rotich, crossing the Finish Line in 1:44.51, an increase in time of 0.240% with respect to his Personal Best of 1:43.26 (Monaco, 2021).
