The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games produced new stars who proved that they could compete with the best despite having a shortened competition and calendar due to the global pandemic. Karsten Warholm obliterated the field to claim gold in the 400metres hurdles in a new world record of 45.94 seconds. The Norwegian covered the distance in a faster time than some 400 metre athletes as he led the top three to run under the previous world record.
